Any time a man I’m entertaining doesn’t know any music from at least the 70s I literally laugh in their face. I even put an old head onto Deniece Williams Melody album, which I got on vinyl from Mo Better Brews in Houston. I definitely looked at him sideways. But that’s why these young dudes ain’t got game. Between the music they listen to and the ain’t shit uncle giving them dating advice rooted in broke pimpology I see why we damn near have to teach them everything. It’s fucking sad.

I put so many young men onto Teena Marie & Minnie Riperton as a young jawn that whenever they heard those artists, they thought of me. I love all the artists & music you listed and it’s depressing that so many folks (including artists) just don’t know about the greatness of R&B/Soul/Jazz before the 90’s…
i don't listen to much r&b for my own reasons but i can say that the reason most niggas my age don't is because of the cultural pendulum swing around the time of us coming up. takes a lot to shed the mindset that any romance is corny or lame or embarrassing or weak. most don't shed it, and this is a symptom of that
