Love all of this. I love the way we can perform because we know that white spaces can never hold our beauty. When I was in grad school at a Pwi, my supervisor tried to recommend me taking a speech class because I pronounced “ask” like “ax.” We have so much damn depth. Sometimes when I write like “them” I actually feel like I’m toning it down. And when I lean to myself I’m forcing them to get on my level. Needed this today.
Wut U said with this SAID it ALL. Especially, being from the Delta Deep South of DESOTO, MS and LOUISIANA. I growt up speeking pretty much MISSISSIP PATOIS/SLANG southern drawl stile. Still do. Always being tole to slow up by folks Up North. I have to repeat mahself a lot cuz I tend to run all mah werds 2getha. Butt where Im frum dats how wee Speek. Its how I write mah NOVELS too. Basically Ion give-a-fuck bout wut dem SKOOLS of HIRED LEARNING be tombout...............and def wit U on GIL SCOTT-HERON. Got all his Books too. The NIGGER FACTORY was ahead of its time.
Hi! Fellow nerd/scholastic overachiever here 😅 so I'm gonna be real literal and answer your questions 😂
1. High school was so fuckin traumatic for me so I only remember reading a few books and a short story. (To Kill a Mockingbird; The Great Gatsby; Shawshank Redemption; "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson and Romeo and Juliet.)
2. Not at ALL. I hope high schools in more progressive states have stepped their game up & are incorporating a lot more books by Black & Indigenous authors and marginalized authors in general.
3. Honestly already forgot questions 3&4
Anyway, I think this is the third piece of yours that I've read and I love it all. Thank you for your authentic self!
I love this fuck being put in a box you have just got a new subcriber keep living on the outside of the box i will be right there reading everything sometimes you have to let your hair down let me stand up and clap for you!
I feel this so deeply. Lmao. I ovulate between really academic language and really thick New York specific Ebonics. I been a bird since like … the 5th grade. And I’m really trying to keep the line. To sound like myself. Both parts. All the time.
I'm seeing this months late but I digress. I'm in love! I love your writing. Black is Blessed, different and deserves to be recognized. I'm tired of having to feel like I have to be perfect for people who simply don't and WON'T understand us. Keep talkin' in slang. Keep talkin' in ebonics/AAVE. mwah to all the beauties still finding their voice and to those who are still finding em: KEEP.GOING.
i love this so much! i resonated with this a lot because i often feel pressured to use big words when writing, and in a way it feels performative and not representative of my true writing style. this was such a refreshing read, thank you!

Love this! Show up as your authentic self every time.
Aways more fun, exciting, and informative upon second reading. It seems to offer a more comprehensive grasp and clarity. Thank you all you write!
